Sedation Options

What is Sedation?
Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients feel relaxed during treatment. Depending on the type of sedation used, you may feel mildly calm, deeply relaxed, or even sleep through the entire procedure. Although sedation helps you stay comfortable, local anesthetic is still used to numb the treatment area so you remain pain-free.
We provide multiple sedation options at our Austin, TX office, including nitrous oxide and intravenous (IV) sedation, both commonly used for implant surgery and other complex procedures.
Why is Sedation Needed?
- Struggle with dental anxiety or panic attacks
- Are undergoing a longer or more complex procedure

Who is a Candidate for Sedation?
Before recommending sedation, our team will review your medical history and discuss your comfort level, treatment needs, and available options. Most healthy individuals are good candidates.
For oral or IV sedation, you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you home after the appointment, as it is not safe to operate a vehicle afterward.
What Happens During Sedation?
Sedation dentistry is designed to help you feel calm, safe, and completely at ease throughout your visit. Once your chosen sedation method is selected, the process is simple and carefully monitored for your comfort.
A small needle is placed into your arm and attached to an intravenous line. During the appointment, a drip line will continuously administer the sedative to keep you comfortably asleep until the needle is removed. After the procedure is complete, you’ll be taken to a recovery room to gently wake up from whichever sedative you received.
